Celebrating a Century of Conservation
Since 1924 we have been dedicated to the preservation of Newtown’s open spaces and natural beauty. With over 1,500 acres of eternally protected land, we are now celebrating a century of stewarding one of our community’s greatest assets. We’re excited to share our new website with you as we pass this historic milestone in our organization’s history.

NFA Acquires Deep Brook Farm
Thank you to our 400+ donors who made this possible!

The Newtown Forest Association (NFA) is proud to announce the purchase of Deep Brook Farm as the newest addition to our roster of permanently preserved open spaces in Newtown! We are thrilled to mark our centennial anniversary as Connecticut’s first land trust with this milestone.
The Deep Brook Farm Preserve will protect 60+ acres of farmland and upland forest, meadows, and wetlands in perpetuity with public access to hiking trails and other passive recreation. The property is surrounded on two sides by bucolic dirt roads and is less than a mile away from the flagpole. In addition to the preservation of the land itself, the NFA has taken ownership of the stone barns on the property, the foundation of which dates back to the mid 1700s.
In the coming months the NFA will be sharing more information about the construction of trails, parking, and other public amenities that will make this property one of the crown jewels of Newtown’s open spaces. We’d like to thank The Estate of Dr. Thomas Draper for working with us to make possible the preservation of the land’s agricultural heritage. We look forward to seeing you all out on the trails!

Winter Volunteer Day &Bonfire
Help the NFA give local critters a new home on Saturday, January 10th! We will be building bird and bat houses in the Holcombe HIll (heated!) garage, to then be placed across multiple NFA preserves. All materials will be provided but there is a cap of 20 people. Please rsvp to elliott.taylor@newtownforestassociation.org
Then, at 4pm we'll be lighting up another huge Holcombe Hill bonfire. This is a family-friendly event for members only. Come hang out and get to know your fellow Newtown conservationists.
