Celebrating a Century of Conservation

The Newtown Forest Association (NFA) is proud to announce the purchase of Deep Brook Farm as the newest addition to our roster of permanently preserved open spaces in Newtown! We are thrilled to mark our centennial anniversary as Connecticut’s first land trust with this milestone.

The Deep Brook Farm Preserve will protect 60+ acres of farmland and upland forest, meadows, and wetlands in perpetuity with public access to hiking trails and other passive recreation. The property is surrounded on two sides by bucolic dirt roads and is less than a mile away from the flagpole. In addition to the preservation of the land itself, the NFA has taken ownership of the stone barns on the property, the foundation of which dates back to the mid 1700s. 

In the coming months the NFA will be sharing more information about the construction of trails, parking, and other public amenities that will make this property one of the crown jewels of Newtown’s open spaces. We’d like to thank The Estate of Dr. Joseph Draper for working with us to make possible the preservation of the land’s agricultural heritage. We look forward to seeing you all out on the trails!
